India Calls for Equal Focus on Adaptation, Mitigation and Finance at Pre-COP31 in Fiji
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, leading India's delegation at the UNFCCC Pre-COP31 meetings co-hosted by Australia, Fiji and Tuvalu, called for equal attention to adaptation, mitigation and means of implementation. Addressing the Leaders' Plenary in Fiji, he said the principles of Equity and Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC) must be upheld, and that there can be no 'one-size-fits-all' path to climate action. He offered to share India's expertise in coastal vulnerability assessment, shoreline mapping, marine spatial planning and space-based early warning with Pacific Island Countries, drawing on institutions such as ISRO, NCSCM and NCCR. For exams: Pre-COP31 is being co-hosted by Australia, Fiji and Tuvalu.
