Retail Inflation Rises to 5.54% in September 2026; Food Inflation at 7.74%

Year-on-year retail inflation based on the All India Consumer Price Index (base 2024=100) rose to 5.54% (provisional) in September 2026 from 4.83% in August, MoSPI said. Rural inflation was 6.08% and urban 4.88%. Food inflation based on the Consumer Food Price Index rose to 7.74% from 5.97%. Potato, tomato and motor cars were among items with the lowest inflation. For exams: CPI is released by the National Statistics Office (MoSPI); the new CPI series has base year 2024=100.
