National Supercomputing Mission Reaches 40 Supercomputers With 68 Petaflops
India's supercomputing capacity under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), launched in 2015, has grown to 40 supercomputers delivering 68 petaflops as of September 2026. The mission has also developed indigenous servers, software, cooling and networking technologies. These systems support computational biology, weather prediction and climate modelling, disaster management, big data analytics and astrophysics. India's journey in the field began with PARAM 8000 in the early 1990s. For exams: NSM is jointly run by the Department of Science and Technology and MeitY, and is implemented by C-DAC and IISc Bengaluru.
