Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches World Bank's World Development Report 2026 on Artificial Intelligence

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the World Bank Group's World Development Report 2026: The Promise of Artificial Intelligence in New Delhi on 8 October 2026. The report examines the opportunities and challenges AI presents for developing economies and sets out a framework to harness it through adoption, adaptation and advancement. It notes that AI can widen access to expertise, raise productivity and improve services, but that the gains depend on electricity, connectivity, computing, quality data, skills and capable institutions. The India launch was hosted by the IndiaAI Mission (MeitY) with the World Bank and included a State AI Showcase. Vaishnaw cited examples such as Baramati, where sugarcane yields rose 40% with 30% less water and fertiliser, and a 35% rise in TB detection. केंद्रीय इलेक्ट्रॉनिकी और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने 8 अक्टूबर 2026 को नई दिल्ली में विश्व बैंक समूह की विश्व विकास रिपोर्ट 2026: द प्रॉमिस ऑफ आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस जारी की। रिपोर्ट विकासशील अर्थव्यवस्थाओं के लिए AI के अवसरों और चुनौतियों का अध्ययन करती है और अपनाने, अनुकूलन और उन्नति के माध्यम से इसका लाभ उठाने का ढांचा प्रस्तुत करती है। इसके अनुसार AI विशेषज्ञता तक पहुंच बढ़ा सकता है, उत्पादकता बढ़ा सकता है और सेवाओं में सुधार कर सकता है, लेकिन ये लाभ बिजली, कनेक्टिविटी, कंप्यूटिंग, गुणवत्तापूर्ण डेटा, कौशल और सक्षम संस्थानों पर निर्भर हैं। भारत में इसका लोकार्पण इंडियाAI मिशन (MeitY) ने विश्व बैंक के साथ किया, जिसमें राज्य AI प्रदर्शनी भी हुई। वैष्णव ने बारामती का उदाहरण दिया, जहां 30% कम पानी और उर्वरक से गन्ने की पैदावार 40% बढ़ी, और TB की पहचान में 35% वृद्धि का उल्लेख किया। परीक्षा के लिए: विश्व विकास रिपोर्ट विश्व बैंक की वार्षिक प्रमुख रिपोर्ट है; 2026 संस्करण का विषय 'द प्रॉमिस ऑफ आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस' है।
