Rajnath Singh Launches First Fleet Support Ship 'Surya' at Hindustan Shipyard

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the first Fleet Support Ship, FSS-1, named 'Surya', at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, on 6 October 2026. He also laid the keel of the fifth ship, FSS-5, and inaugurated the upgraded Slipway-4 with a 300-tonne Goliath crane. The upgraded slipway allows HSL to build and launch ships of up to 45,000 DWT, and the crane was made by L&T Geostructure with Konecranes under Make in India. Fleet Support Ships replenish warships at sea, extending the Navy's reach and endurance in the Indian Ocean Region. Rajnath Singh recalled that 'Jala Usha', the first ship built in independent India, was launched at Visakhapatnam in 1948, and noted that HSL attained Miniratna Category-I status in 2025. For exams: FSS-1 'Surya' is the first of five Fleet Support Ships being built by HSL, Visakhapatnam.

रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने 6 अक्टूबर 2026 को विशाखापत्तनम स्थित हिंदुस्तान शिपयार्ड लिमिटेड (HSL) में पहला फ्लीट सपोर्ट शिप FSS-1 'सूर्य' लॉन्च किया। उन्होंने पांचवें जहाज़ FSS-5 की कील भी रखी और 300 टन गोलियथ क्रेन के साथ उन्नत स्लिपवे-4 का उद्घाटन किया। उन्नत स्लिपवे से HSL 45,000 DWT तक के जहाज़ बना और लॉन्च कर सकेगा, और क्रेन को मेक इन इंडिया के तहत L&T जियोस्ट्रक्चर और कोनेक्रेन्स ने बनाया है। फ्लीट सपोर्ट शिप समुद्र में युद्धपोतों को रसद पहुंचाते हैं, जिससे हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में नौसेना की पहुंच और क्षमता बढ़ती है। राजनाथ सिंह ने याद दिलाया कि स्वतंत्र भारत में बना पहला जहाज़ 'जल उषा' 1948 में विशाखापत्तनम में लॉन्च हुआ था, और बताया कि HSL को 2025 में मिनीरत्न श्रेणी-I का दर्जा मिला। परीक्षा के लिए: FSS-1 'सूर्य' HSL, विशाखापत्तनम में बन रहे पांच फ्लीट सपोर्ट शिप में पहला है।
