Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel 'Shreyas' Launched at GRSE, Kolkata

Yard 3040, named Shreyas, a Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) for the Indian Navy, was launched at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, on 10 October 2026 in the presence of Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. NGOPVs are being built at two shipyards - Goa Shipyard Limited and GRSE. These indigenously designed and built ships will add to the existing OPVs for maritime surveillance, search and rescue, protection of offshore assets, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and anti-piracy missions. The name Shreyas means 'best' or 'most excellent' in Sanskrit. For exams: NGOPVs are being built by GSL (Goa) and GRSE (Kolkata); Shreyas is Yard 3040.

भारतीय नौसेना के लिए अगली पीढ़ी के अपतटीय गश्ती पोत (NGOPV) यार्ड 3040 'श्रेयस' को 10 अक्टूबर 2026 को कोलकाता के गार्डन रीच शिपबिल्डर्स एंड इंजीनियर्स (GRSE) में नौसेना उप प्रमुख वाइस एडमिरल अजय कोचर की उपस्थिति में लॉन्च किया गया। NGOPV दो शिपयार्ड - गोवा शिपयार्ड लिमिटेड और GRSE - में बनाए जा रहे हैं। स्वदेशी रूप से डिज़ाइन और निर्मित ये पोत समुद्री निगरानी, खोज और बचाव, अपतटीय परिसंपत्तियों की सुरक्षा, मानवीय सहायता एवं आपदा राहत और समुद्री डकैती-रोधी अभियानों के लिए मौजूदा OPV की क्षमता बढ़ाएंगे। संस्कृत में 'श्रेयस' का अर्थ 'सर्वश्रेष्ठ' है। परीक्षा के लिए: NGOPV का निर्माण GSL (गोवा) और GRSE (कोलकाता) कर रहे हैं; श्रेयस यार्ड 3040 है।
