Indian Navy to Commission Indigenous ASW Shallow Water Craft 'Mangrol' on 12 October

Mangrol, the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, will be commissioned into the Indian Navy on 12 October 2026 at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, in a ceremony presided over by Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command. Named after the coastal town of Mangrol in Gujarat's Junagadh district, the ship carries forward the legacy of the minesweeper INS Mangrol (M85), which served until 7 April 2004. It has over 80% indigenous content and is fitted with the Abhay hull-mounted sonar, lightweight torpedoes, an indigenous anti-submarine rocket launcher and the Maareech advanced torpedo decoy system. Powered by three diesel engines with waterjet propulsion, it is designed to detect and counter submarine threats in coastal waters.
